Kitchen Tap Guide

Our guide will show you how to choose the perfect Tap for your kitchen sink. Today Im going to provide you with information on buying a kitchen tap. The following guide will answer many commonly asked tap questions, plus a few more you may not have thought of. Finishes Taps come in a variety of finishes, the most common being chrome. Silk Steel, Stainless Steel and Pewter finishes have a fine grain finish and offer an alternative for a contemporary kitchen. Most other finishes eg Gold and Bronze are self explanatory. We cannot advise on which finishes match each sink as this is personal preference. Water Pressure The majority of taps will work on the average British domestic water pressure. If you live in a low or high pressure area, there are taps designed for your water supply. Please check the specifications for further details. Water Pressure can be shown in three measurements – bar, psi or Head (in metres). In an unpressurised system, the water pressure is governed by the height of the storage tank (usually in the loft). The Head (in metres) can be calculated by measuring the vertical distance from the tank to the tap, not the length of the pipes between the two. You can easily calculate the head from this measurement and then convert to bar which is the most commonly used unit of measurement. The following formula is used to convert head to bar 1m = 0.1 bar eg 5m of head = 0.5 bar. Also 1 bar = 14.5 psi which may be the pressure given by your water company in a

Code Violation? Or Crappy Landlord?

I have several questions pointing to one main question which is, what should I do if the Landlord/Property Manager avoids, drags their feet or flat out aren’t fixing things wrong with the house I rent?

1. When it rains it leaks through the front door. Half the windows in my house don’t have locks. The heater won’t heat passed 60ish degrees. The bedrooms don’t have light fixtures but switch controled plugs. When I push(not hard) on the top of the front door it pulls away from doorframe a few inches(very old door). Won’t provide smoke alarms. Kitchen sink leaks. Bthroom faucets won’t turn off completely(steady heavy drip). Are these housing code violations?

2. Does Orange Park or Clay County Florida use the 1985 Standard Housing Code or something more recent? Were can I get a copy?

3. What is concidered untenantable in regards to the 2009 Florida Statue, Civil Practice and Procedure chapter, 83.56?

I appreciate the help and advice
I have recently installed a smoke alarm next to both bedrooms.
I did make a List of discrepancies and dropped it off at the property managment office about two months ago. They made a copy and gave me the original back.

problem with tub/shower faucet in other bathroom, now sons using mine. Help!?

The thing on the faucet that you push down or pull up, wont move anymore….so my adult boys cant take a shower in there…so now my youngest son, just turned 30, cant take a shower, but he uses my shower now. Both laid off no money for buying a new faucet deal and on disabled widow soc sec, no money from me to hire a plumber. Does it need to be replaced? It doesnt LOOK BROKE. It just wont switch from tub to shower head. What can we do? Please help!! I cant use my shower either, but that’s because i cant get up in there now. I am 63 and finally first time in my life, have my own bathroom. SORRY IF IT SOUNDS SELFISH, BUT I DONT WANT TO SHARE MY BATHROOM. My daughter takes me to fitness usa 3 times a week where i exercise in the pool, and shower with lots of water pressure. btw, that is the other problem we have in this trailer and this park, low water pressure. the park has wells, and i think it is affecting our pipes. The rust is unreal. I have a little pool out back, and you should see the DARK RUST COLOR ON THE FILTER WHEN I CLEAN IT OUT. OH MY. One other problem: water softener quiet going through full cycle, it would start but not finish the cycle. Had son take all the old salt out of it. Now i have been looking for a "new" one on craigslist. It is difficult to live here without one. Cant drink the water, so we use a Brita filter i got at salvation army. works great. somebody told me there is this little part on the water softener (Kenmore) that gets junk in it and that makes it not work? ever heard of such a thing? is it possible that is the problem? cant afford a regular plumber for sure here in flint michigan. JUST ONE MORE THING: something is leaking under kitchen sink, and now thewood is rotted under there. Wht could my son look for to see if he could fix that? He has no plumbing experience. ONE LAST THING (I PROMISE): one whole wall in living room (where i had fish tanks) the outlets quit working. That wall is shared with the kitchen ….outlet on floor behind stove now quit working also. Other outlets on that kitchen wall DO WORK. Across from that is the kitchen sink, above the sink are 3 hanging little lamps (they were there when i moved here 3 years ago), they have QUIT WORKING, but the switch to the overhead in middle of kitchen still works (both switches are together). What do you think could be the problem there? Are they related to each other?……problem in kitchen andliving room? problem on one side of kitchen and the other? Other switches and outlets in kitchen are working fine.
Sorry about the LONG questions, thought it was my last opportunity for today and that i was out of questions. Is there an agency that would help me with this since i am 63 and disabled on low widow soc sec (600 a month)?

Need helping repairing kitchen faucet.?

I’ve been trying to figure out how to fix my kitchen sink, but it’s really hard to fix something for which you don’t even know the name of the part. i’ll try to explain it as clearly as possible:

I need to find a replacement outside threaded hollow cylinder that screws into the base of a kitchen faucet (a Price Pfister faucet) that extends out the bottom of the faucet by about 3" (it’s about 3.5" in total length including the portion of the cylinder that screws into the bottom of the fucet base). This cylinder has three copper tubes that extend out the bottom. 2 copper tubes go to the hot and cold supply lines and 1 copper tube goes to the pull-out sprayer (I hope that’s clear enough. It’s nothing really extravagent; it’s a pretty standard faucet).

And if finding this part wasn’t trouble enough, I have to make new connections for the copper tubing that attaches to the braided supply lines. I plan on using copper compression connections with one side threaded to connect to the braided tubing. Is that the best approach, or is there some other method that is preferred?

Do I need to make claim for repair, or is my contractor liable?

We bought a newly built house a little over a year ago which had a 1yr warranty on the construction. About 5 months in, we noticed the wood flooring in front of the kitchen sink had started to warp really bad. We called our builder to come out and he also brought the plumbing contractor he had used on our house. It turned out that the hose connection on our kitchen sink faucet that pulls out from the base had become loose, allowing water to leak and run down the back of the cabinet and then seep in to the wood floor. The plumber actually said that this issue was a known problem for the faucet he installed and proceeded to crimp the hose connection, thereby sealing it so it wouldn’t become loose again. The three of us agreed that we would wait a few months for the wood floor to dry out to see the extent of the damage and go from there. The builder said that he would have to take it up with the plumbing contractor at that time if any repairs were needed.

Fast forward to this month where, after having the heater running for weeks, the planks in the wood floor really dried out and now there are about 1/8 inch gaps that run about 2-6 feet on some of the planks. We called our builder and he sent out his wife, who runs the wood floor business that put in our flooring. She came out and said that she would give us an estimate for the repair and that *we* would have to contact the plumber to get him to pay for the fixes. We realized after she left that they had totally changed their tune. At first they made it seem like they would fix the floors and deal with the plumber. Now it seems like they’re basically saying we can hire them to fix the floors, but if the plumber is going to pay any money, it’s up to us to handle getting it from him. I don’t think that’s right since the damage occured while our house was under warranty, which makes the builder responsible for any damage caused by his sub-contractors.

They are a very nice couple which makes this especially tough. I don’t want to have to get lawyers involved unless I’m totally sure that we are in the right. Any thoughts?
There are statutes in my state regarding damages that result from defective construction. Essentially, it’s like an honor system for licensed contractors and I downloaded a pdf that explains the whole process of filing a claim with the state’s Construction Contractor’s board. Thanks, everyone for your advice so far.

What is the name of a one handled faucet?

We changed the faucets in our home from the hot and cold turning faucets on either side of the main spigot, to the one handled, pull-up type faucet, with the water coming out of it. Now, I am putting the house on the market, and want to list it as an "upgrade" or at least a replacement to the 1984 faucets. Can you please help? These were in the bathrooms, and the kitchen sink. Thanks. :)

How do I fix my pull-out kitchen sink faucet? It does the spray and stream simultaneously.?

We have a wonderful pull-out kitchen sink faucet (Kohler’s Vinnata kitchen sink faucet- K-690) that the previous home owners installed in our kitchen. We love it because it has a button that can let us choose either shower spray or normal stream. It’s worked well through the years, but more and more, it’s been doing both the spray and the stream simultaneously (despite pressing the button). Since Kohler’s been no help (since we didn’t buy the faucet) here are my questions: Is this something I can easily fix myself? Do I need to buy a completely new faucet? Is Kohler responsible for fixing it (under its lifetime warranty) even though I didn’t purchase it?
